Police have confirmed three arrests were made at a wild party in the Mission last weekend that destroyed a couple’s home, leaving them with only the clothes on their backs.
A 24-year-old man was arrested for causing a disturbance and released; a 22-year-old man was arrested for consuming liquor in public and ticketed; and a 19-year-old was arrested for assaulting a police officer and released.
Police are still considering if charges will be laid and meeting with parents and the local school community as the investigation moves forward.
It has been determined the party began after Makal Mann, who shares the Lark Road rental home with his girlfriend Katie Poppy, asked his 17-year-old son to watch the couple’s dogs. His son, in turn, invited a handful of friends over and then left to run an errand, returning to a house full of people.
“Someone else put it on social media,” said Cpl. Tania Carroll, spokesperson for the Kelowna RCMP. “…It would appear the others broke into the house.”
A 16-year-old girl whose family had reported her missing the day before was found among the party crowd, and police have confirmed damage to the home is extensive.
While none of those arrested are of high school age, Poppy said she was told many of the party-goers were not of age to drink and still in the school system.
