Update: Body discovered in Kamloops settling pond recovered

Police are investigating after a body was discovered in a pond at the Domtar Pulp Mill

UPDATE: MARCH 9

Police have now been able to recover the body discovered near the Domtar Pulp Mill.

“At this time it is still not known the gender, age or identity of the body,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, in a press release. “Once an autopsy has been completed more information will be forthcoming.”

Officers are still processing the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

– Update by Kamloops This Week

Police continue to investigate the area around a settling pond at the Domtar Pulp Mill following the discovery of a body on Wednesday.

Kamloops Mounties and a coroners service investigator were called to the site on Wednesday afternoon after employees at the mill spotted a body in one of the facility’s ponds.

RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said Thursday the body “has not yet been recovered from the site.”

She said the scene is being processed by forensic investigators.

“Once the body has been removed, an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and time of death and its identity,” she said.

“At this time, it is unknown what the gender or age of the body is.”

The investigation is ongoing.

Police in Kamloops are looking into the discovery of a body found in a pond at Domtar Pulp Mill.

Employees of the pulp mill discovered the body just after 3 p.m. today.

The RCMP Serious Crime Unit and the Coroner’s Officer are currently on scene.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says few details are available as police have just started their investigation.

At this time it is unknown how the body came to be in the pond, how long it has been there or if foul play is suspected.
