BREAKING: 2 wildfires spark between Merritt and Kamloops

Two “out of control” wildfires have sparked northeast of Merritt.

The first, the Lauder Creek wildfire, was discovered on Friday evening, May 10, and is eight hectares in size. It is located northeast of Nicola Lake.

BC Wildfire Service says the blaze was human-caused.

The second wildfire is 2.5 hectares in size and located eight kilometres up the Swakum Mountain, just west of Highway 5. It was discovered at around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, and its cause is under investigation.

BCWS says both wildfires are “out of control,” as of 3 p.m. on Saturday.
