One fatality in Highway 97 collision in Vernon

Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP say one person was killed in a three-car collision that occurred on Highway 97 on the Swan Lake corridor shortly after 4 p.m. Friday.

The accident happened near the Highway 97 intersection with Meadowlark Road.

“The cause of the collision has not yet been determined and no further details in regards to the parties involved are being released at this time, pending the next of kin notification,” said Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Const. Kelly Brett.

The highway was shut down for several hours. Traffic was diverted via Old Kamloops Road and Pleasant Valley Road while the investigation at the accident scene was completed.

It was the third traffic-related fatality in the North Okanagan in four days.

One person was killed in Spallumcheen after a vehicle and semi-truck collided on Highway 97A south of Pleasant Valley Cross Road Tuesday morning.

That same day, a man from Nelson was killed in a head-on collision near Westwold on Highway 97.

The accident happened just after 5:30 p.m.
