The Kelowna RCMP have been catching people who have been trying out for the Fast and the Furious around town.
On Tuesday, July 4 at 6:30 a.m., the RCMP stopped a driver in a 2008 black Dodge Challenger who was driving 142 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on John Hindle Drive. This level of speeding resulted in the car being impounded for seven days and a $483 fine. While the officer was completing their investigation, it was discovered the vehicle was also uninsured, which resulted in an additional $598 fine.
On Thursday, July 6, officers pulled over a driver in a Chevrolet truck who was clocked at going 136 k/h in a 90 km/h zone.
Additionally, from the week of June 14-22, the RCMP held a driving blitz, in which they took eight excessive speeders off the streets. The vehicles were removed from Stewart Road, Glenmore Drive and Clement Avenue.
“Ten vehicles removed from our streets all for excessive speeds, this is completely unacceptable and extremely dangerous. These drivers are wilfully putting countless lives at risk” said Kelowna RCMP Media Relations Officer Cst. Mike Della-Paolera. “The Kelowna RCMP will continue to make every effort in stopping those drivers who disregard the rules on the road and put others at risk.”
