Cops find hundreds of pot plants in West Kelowna home

Tip leads RCMP to hydro bypass, growing operation and a large haul of marijuana plants.

Police have seized more than 650 marijuana plants after raiding a residence in West Kelowna.

Acting on a tip regarding what was thought to be the theft of hydro, West Kelowna RCMP executed a search warrant on the residence in the 3500-block of Ashley Court Tuesday and found a sophisticated marihuana growing operation.

Inside, police officers also discovered a hydro bypass, as well as 653 marihuana plants in various stages of production

A 49-year-old West Kelowna man was arrested at the scene.

The man, whose identity was not released, faces potential charges of theft of electricity, production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

He was released on a promise to appear for court at a later date.
