Smoke pouring from a two story Kelowna apartment Sunday night prompted immediate action from the Kelowna Fire Department, and displaced two residents.
Upon arrival just before 11 p.m., KFD crews found light smoke coming from the window of a two story multifamily residence at 451 Harvey Ave, said Eric Simpson, fire department captain.
“The fire was contained to the kitchen area of a second floor unit. The residents got out safe and no injures were reported,” he said.
Fire Investigators were on scene in the morning to determine a cause, but the fire’s origin did not appear to be suspicious.
The two residents and one cat who lived in the suite are in the care of Emergency Support Services for the next 72 hours.
The Kelowna Fire Department reminds residents to test smoke alarms regularly.
Two engines,one rescue, one ladder truck, one command unit and a Safety Officer for a total of 12 personal responded to the scene with assistance from BCAS and RCMP.
