Eight Kelowna residents out of home following fire

Eight people and one dog are in the care of Emergency Social Services following an early morning fire.

Eight people and one dog are in the care of Emergency Social Services following an early morning fire.

The Kelowna Fire Department responded to a report of a couch on fire at around 1 a.m. Sept. 5, in the carport of a residence at 1267 Graham Street.

“On scene, the first arriving crew upgraded the incident to a working second alarm fire involving a duplex which dispatches additional units,” said Dennis Miller, platoon captain for the Kelowna Fire Department.

“The fire was contained to one side of the duplex. Emergency Social Services are looking after eight residents and one dog from the two sides of the duplex.”

Three Engines, One Rescue vehicle, One Command vehicle and a Safety Officer responded to the scene with assistance from BCAS, RCMP and Fortis for the utilities.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and fire investigators will be on scene today.
