Erratic driving lands drunk driver in cuffs

A West Kelowna man was arrested after providing a breath two and a half times the legal limit

An erratic driver on Christmas morning should not have been behind the wheel in the first place.

Following up on a tip from a concerned citizen of an black Ford Explorer weaving in and out of traffic and crossing the centre line near Boucherie Road and Sunnyside Road, Kelowna RCMP were led to a suspected drunk driver.

According to Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey officers caught up with the driver of the Ford Explorer as he was pulling into his driveway.

Police determined that the driver of the suspect vehicle, who was also the registered owner, was already prohibited from being at the wheel at all.

“Officers at the scene detected what they believed to be strong symptoms of impairment by alcohol from the driver,” stated O’Donaghey in a release.

The 50-year-old West Kelowna man was taken to the RCMP detachment where it is alleged he provided a breath sample more than two and a half times the legal limit of 0.08.

The man faces potential charges and was held in police custody overnight.
