One of the District of West Kelowna’s longest serving employees has been promoted to the position of chief administrative officer.
Mayor Doug Findlater recently announced former chief financial officer and deputy chief administrative officer Jim Zaffino was named to the position.
Zaffino’s appointment as CAO will continue through to his expected retirement in June 2015.
Zaffino had been appointed interim CAO on Feb. 7 after Jason Johnson became city manager in Victoria.
“Mr. Zaffino is an award-winning municipal leader, who has the respect of his peers and the confidence of council,” said Findlater.
“His appointment brings leadership continuity to the District of West Kelowna.”
Council brought Zaffino on board in 2008 as the second member of the DWK’s senior management team.
He has 39 years of municipal government experience, and in 2011 was awarded a professional service award for leadership from his peers at the Local Government Management Association of BC.
“Council values Zaffino’s experience, financial and management expertise, excellent rapport with management and staff, and solid reputation with stakeholders, community leaders and counterparts in government.”
According to Findlater, the process to search for the district’s third CAO will be left with a new council, to be sworn in after scheduled local government elections in November.
