Smoke from a wildfire up Spion Kopp has died off.
White smoke coming from the popular recreational area in Lake Country was first seen shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9.
Caroline Dava saw a concerning amount of smoke at that time and called the fire department. But by 12:30 p.m. it appeared the blaze was being extinguished.
“It’s a very small amount. I’m assuming they are putting it out,” she said.
BC Wildfire Service crews have confirmed the spot-sized fire is being managed.
“When I spoke with the officer he said the smoke had died off already,” fire information officer Madison Smith said.
The Lake Country Fire Department with the UTV and water tender addressed the initial bush fire and BC Wildfire Service remains scene with one initial attack crew (three personnel). Helicopters have been reported in the area.
The fire is near the first view point before the trail to the top, behind The Lakes neighbourhood.
There is no indication yet as to what may have caused the fire
