There was minor damage after a blaze at Kelowna International Airport Wedneday night.

At about 9:40 p.m., the Kelowna Fire Department responded to a report of a fire on the roof of the airport.

“YLW operations also responded after airport staff reported that there was smoke in part of the terminal, and flames spotted on the roof,” said Scott Cronquist, a KFD platoon captain.

“Construction workers on site, used an extinguisher to put out the fire. The fire department along with YLW operations then overhauled the area making sure that there was no extension. The fire was contained to a small area and damage was minimal.”

During the incident, there were no flight disruptions, and all air operations continued as normal. There

will be no disruption of Thursday’s flight schedule.

“Passengers and staff were not impacted by the incident,” said Cronquist.

“There were roofers working on the roof in the area of the fire earlier in the day.”
