UPDATE: Gas leak prompts road closure

UPDATE: 1:40 p.m.

Asher Road in Rutland has reopened after a gas leak forced a closure early Tuesday afternoon.

“We received a call at about 12:03 p.m. and we arrived on site at 12:25 p.m. and determined that it was third-party damage to a service line,” says Nicole Bogdanovic with Fortis.

Crews controlled the leak and repaired the line. Bogdanovic says just one customer was affected and their service should be restored by 2 p.m.

“With people thinking about their spring yard work, this is a good reminder to the public that the majority of damages to our system are preventable. Always “Call before you dig” to obtain information on the location of buried gas lines and other utilities. The toll-free number for BC One Call is 1-800-474-6886.”
