Heat could be coming back to the change rooms at the Capital News Centre in the near future.

According to the city’s building services manager, Martin Johansen, parts needed to fix a large fan that moves heated air through the change rooms but which “disintegrated” in a mechanical breakdown recently, have finally crossed the border from the U.S., where they were ordered from earlier this month.

He said while the building is owned by the city, RG Properties, which operates and maintains the facility under contract, is responsible for repairs.

Johansen said while he only learned of the problem with the fan about three weeks ago, he said Tuesday he was told by the building’s manager the parts are expected to be here in a few days and then installed.

But he said the installation will be a major task that will require a crane to be used to lift the parts onto the roof of the building which is located in the Mission area of Kelowna.

Some CNC users have complained about the cold temperatures in the change rooms of late, temperatures exacerbated by the cold weather outside the building that the city has experienced in recent weeks.
