Four people were thrown from their truck Saturday, following a mechanical malfunction near Hayman Lake.

The Kelowna RCMP received a report of an off-road crash near Hayman Lake off of Bartley Road July 14 at 2:45 p.m.

“Apparently, four people were off-roading in the area and were on a steep trail when their drive shaft broke,” said Const. Kris Clark.

“While backing down the hill, their truck hit a tree, overturning the vehicle and ejecting all occupants.”

A 27 year old West Kelowna man, and two 27 year old women (Kelowna and West Kelowna) suffered serious but apparently non-life threatening injuries and were air-lifted out by Search and Rescue helicopter to a waiting ambulance.

The driver, a 25 year old man from West Kelowna, was uninjured.

Alcohol and lack of seatbelts appear to have been factors, along with the mechanical malfunction. No charges have been recommended at this time.
