Traffic was backed up on Highway 97 in West Kelowna this morning due to a two-vehicle collision near Nancee Way just before 7 a.m.
Police says that the driver of a northbound Mitsubishi car on Highway 97 failed to stop a red light and struck a southbound pick up truck that was turning left onto Nancee Way.
The car struck the passenger side of the truck which caused the truck to flip onto its roof and coming to rest against the traffic light post.
The driver of the truck was taken to Kelowna General Hospital with non life threatening injuries, suffering from neck and back pain.The driver of the car was uninjured.
Police say both drivers are adult males from Kelowna and both were wearing seat belts. Unlike the older trudk, the car was equipped with an air bag which did deploy.
Police have spoken to several witnesses who state that the car appeared to speed up in an attempt to clear the intersection. The driver of the car has been issued a violation ticket for Proceed on a Red Light which carries a fine of $167.
