The inaugural Conquer the Lake Half-Marathon takes place Sunday June 12 in Lake Country.

The final approvals are in place and the inaugural Conquer the Lake Running Race will take place this Sunday, June 12, with the start/finish line at George Elliot Secondary.

Organizer Shannen Beckinsale hopes to get 40 to 50 participants this first year, which features a half marathon around the perimetre of Wood Lake as well as 12 km and 6 km distances.

"I've had great support so far," said Beckinsale.

"People are really excited about it. Everyone has been talking about it. I've been going to the Chamber of Commerce events and lots of people have been asking me about it."

Beckinsale has received the proper approvals from the District of Lake Country and the Ministry of Transportation, due to the use of Pelmewash Parkway.

Planning the event in its first year, she says things have been going well and she hopes a solid inaugural event will be a good base for the future of the race.

"I think it will grow every year from here on out," she said.

Registration is available online at www.conquerthelakerace.ca.

Beckinsale is still looking for local sponsors that want to support the race as it moves forward. Anyone interested can contact her at transformfitnessbc@gmail.com.
