Kelowna house erupts in flames

A Rutland home at the intersection of Springfield Road and Highway 33 was destroyed by a fire on Wednesday.

  • May. 16, 2012 2:00 p.m.

A house near the intersection of Springfield Road and Highway 33 was completely destroyed by a fire on Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., members of the Kelowna Fire Department responded to a house fire at 3364 Springfield Rd.

Three engines, a rescue vehicle, two water tenders and a command vehicle, along with 16 personnel, were on the scene to put out the blaze.

Strong winds and a lack of nearby fire hydrant made it challenging for crews to fight the flames.

The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious; however, the fire is still under investigation.

The residents of the house and a pet have been assisted by emergency social services.
