A Kelowna man was allegedly found with a significant stash of drugs after being stopped by police responding to reports of a possible impaired driver early Tuesday morning.
The RCMP received multiple driving complaints Oct. 4 at 7:22 a.m., of an erratic and possible impaired driver travelling north bound along Highway 97 from Kelowna into Lake Country.
"Kelowna Mounties caught up with and conducted a traffic stop with the white Cadillac SRX in the parking lot of a strip mall in the 9500 block of Main Street in Lake Country," said Const. Jesse O' Donaghey, in a press release.
"The police investigation had determined that the driver’s ability to safely operate his motor vehicle was affected by an intoxicating substance."
The driver was taken into police custody and found to be in possession of a variety of suspected illegal drugs including, cocaine, heroin and a variety of unidentified pills, along with a large sum of cash.
“The Kelowna RCMP wish to thank those motorists who called in to report the erratic driving behaviour,” says Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey. “It’s the actions of those members of the motoring public and the officers at the scene that likely save a life that day,” he adds.
The driver, a 55-year-old Kelowna man, was issued a driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act and faces potential drug related charges. He was later released from police custody and is expected to appear in court on Feb. 2, 2017.
