Kelowna police are investigating a suspicious death that seemingly happened in the wake of a Friday night house party.

Police were called to an Ethel Street residence Saturday morning, responding to a 911 call from a resident who said he found the victim’s body on his couch.

The investigation has revealed that a 21 year old man attended a party at a residence in the 1300 block of Ethel Street, said Sgt. Ann Morrison.

“There were approximately 20 other people in attendance, all known to each other,” she said. “During the evening a physical altercation broke out between the victim and his 22 year old friend.  After the party, the victim laid down on the couch to sleep where he was found at 10:15 a.m. by the resident of the home.”

Kelowna Detachment Serious Crime Unit has taken over the investigation with assistance from the BC Coroners Office.

The cause of death has yet to be determined.

“Alcohol and drugs are factors in the investigation, but police can not confirm that they are contributing factors in the victims death at this time,” she said.

Police continue to obtain witness information to further the investigation. An autopsy is expected early next week.

Anyone with any information on this incident  is asked to call Kelowna RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
