Kelowna resident honoured with dental award

Kelowna resident and certified dental assistant Elaine Maxwell was honoured with an Award of Merit at the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia’s annual awards ceremony on March 9 in Vancouver.

The award recognizes Maxwell’s significant contributions to the college. The Kelowna resident joined CDSBC’s volunteer network in 2008 where she has served on several committees and the board. She was chair of the CDA Advisory Committee, vice-chair of the CDA Certification Committee, and served as a CDA representative on the board from 2010 to 2016. She is currently a member of the CDA Certification Committee.

Maxwell has been a certified dental assistant in Kelowna for over 40 years. Throughout her career she has worked in a variety of positions, including chair-side assistant, receptionist, orthodontic assistant, instructor of dental assistants, and clinical assistant and coordinator of the Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic in Saudi Arabia.

In addition to her CDA certificate and orthodontic module, Maxwell has an Instructor Diploma and works as a substitute instructor at Okanagan University. She also teaches the Orthodontic Module at Okanagan College in Kelowna.

Maxwell currently works in an orthodontic specialty practice in Kelowna.
