Police are looking for a man who approached a woman with a knife as she headed to a local bank over the Easter weekend.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, the 39-year-old woman was walking up to a bank near Harvey Avenue and Cooper Road to use the ATM when she heard a man’s voice yelling at her to stop.

“When she turned around, she saw a male, dressed all in black, holding a knife,” said Const. Steve Holmes. “The woman was able to run back to her car and lock her doors as the male approached.”

The man then ran from the area and a police service dog was called in to search for the suspect.

The dog located a backpack, containing items believed to belong to the suspect, and it was seized.

During the investigation, police also detained a person of interest, but that man was later released without charge.

The police investigation is ongoing, with officers looking at getting surveillance footage from the area. No arrests have been made.

If anyone has information about the incident, or saw a man clad in dark clothing in the Harvey/Cooper area around 9:30 p.m. last Saturday, they are asked to call the RCMP at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
