Man brought in on Canada-wide warrant after 10-hour stand off in Oliver

Crown counsel was unable to say whether or not charges would be forthcoming relating to a nearly 10-hour standoff with police at an Oliver residence.

RCMP reported on Dec. 14 around 5:30 p.m. they had confirmed the location of a male wanted on a Canada-wide warrant in the Primrose Land and Road 3 area of Oliver.

The Southeast District Emergency Response team assisted in the safe arrest of 23-year-old Dillon Côté, the subject of a parole revocation warrant.

Côté and Michelle Britany Mercier appeared in Penticton Provincial Court on Dec. 19 and both were remanded appearing again in Penticton court Dec. 22.

Both are also facing charges of theft under $5,000 and the breach of an undertaking related to an incident in Cranbrook on Dec. 13.

RCMP stated in a media release that Côté and a female refused to exit the residence until around 4 a.m. when police “utilized a distraction method and a gas shell to force them out of the home.”

RCMP said there were no injuries suffered in the incident. Crown counsel Kevin Fotty was unable to tell reporters if further charges were coming in relation to the Dec. 14 incident.
