UPDATE: Highway 97A still closed due to mudslide

UPDATE: Wednesday 9:10 a.m.

Highway 97A remains closed due to a mudslide that occured on Tuesday.

A geotechnical assessment has been completed; however there is no estimated time of reopening the road.

UPDATE: 4:10 p.m.

Highway 97A remains closed and has no estimated time of reopening.

An update will be provided on March 15 at 8 a.m. by DriveBC.

A geotechnical assessment has been completed and clean up is reported to be underway

A detour is available on Highway 97B and Highway 1.

UPDATE: 12:50 p.m.

According to a witness on scene, the mudslide occured approximatly half a kilometre south of the Hummingbird Beach Resort.

A geotechnical engineer is reportedly been called in to assess the area.

A mudslide has closed Highway 97A in both directions south of Sicamous.

DriveBC is reporting the mudslide occurred near Swansea point, 10 kilometres south of Sicamous.

An assessment is in progress and a detour is available on Highway 97B and Highway 1.

There is no estimated time of reopening.
