New groper shows up in Rutland

RCMP say a weekend groping in Rutland has no connection to the gropings of four women on the Mission Park Greenway last week.

RCMP say a weekend groping in Rutland has no connection to the gropings of four women on the Mission Park Greenway last week.

Around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, a woman was walking home alone from The North Forty Saloon and was on Rutland Road near Benchview Road as a man was following her.

“When she turned to walk west on Benchview the male came up behind and assaulted and groped her,” said Sgt. Craig Andrichuk.

“As the victim fought back, a neighbour overheard the commotion and came out of the residence and called police.”

That prompted the man to run away, south on Rutland Road.

Police officers and a police service dog searched for the man, but couldn’t find him.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, approximately 23 to 24 years old, with darker eyes, thicker eyebrows and darker short hair.

He weighs approximately 120 to 140 pounds and stood about 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-4 tall.

At the time of the attack, he was wearing a dark blue hoodie.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and say there is no connection between Saturday’s incident and the person groping women on the Greenway.
