Over $9M in capital projects slated for 2025 in greater Vernon

A project at the Duteau Creek Water Treatment Plant is one of 27 projects listed in the Regional District of North Okanagan's preliminary capital budget for 2025.

The Regional District of North Okanagan's preliminary 2025 capital budget shows significant spending on infrastructure coming up next year. 

The preliminary budget was reviewed by the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee (GVAC) Wednesday, Nov. 6, and outlined 27 projects that are planned for 2025, coming in at a total cost of $9,126,863. Of that total, $1,240,396 would be carried forward from the 2024 operating reserve. 

The current revenue funding requirement for the 2025 capital budget is $7,860,000, up from $7,125,000 in 2024. 

The preliminary budget will be up for approval by GVAC at its Dec. 4 meeting. 

The 2025 capital projects are:

• Pipe main connections from the Foothills to the BX ($1,069,416)

• Kalamalka Lake Road and Pottery Road pipe abandonment ($228,467)

• Pipe replacement at 31st Street and 43rd Avenue ($84,435)

• 27th Avenue Rail Crossing project to reduce hauling costs and operational issues from pick up delays ($307,540)

• Moving summer sludge storage area outside at Duteau Creek Water Treatment Plant ($285,000)

• Reservoir design ($206,150)

• Repairing Aberdeen Dam low level outlet design ($600,000)

• Phase two of replacing valves on Duteau transmission main ($500,000)

• Pipe replacement along 42nd Avenue ($1,423,125)

• Pipe replacement along 38th Street ($1,000,670)

• Pipe replacement along Lardeau Way ($1,247,050)

• Contingency ($350,000)

• Purchase of statutory right of ways ($100,000)

• UV replacement at Mission Hill Water Treatment Plant ($100,000)

• Stockpiling spare pipe length pieces to be able to fix transmission main breaks quickly ($100,000)

• Creek crossing repairs - design ($50,000)

• Replacing valves and air valves on Duteau transmission main to reduce large scale emergency shut downs ($750,000)

• Design of next phase of valve replacement on Duteau transmission main ($50,000)

• Baker Hogg Reservoir home demolition ($100,000)

• Design of pipe replacement along 29th Street ($50,000)

• Design of pipe replacement along Pottery Road ($75,000)

• Design of pipe replacement at 43rd Avenue and Alexis Park Drive roundabout ($50,000)

• Design of pipe replacement along 19th and 20th Avenues ($50,000)

• Design of pipe replacement along 18th Avenue ($50,000)

• Design of pipe replacement along 28th Avenue ($50,000)

• Design of pipe replacement along 25th Avenue and 15th Street ($50,000)

• Replacement of Duteau Creek Water Treatment Plant hypochlorite generation cell ($200,000)
