Pedestrian died after Kelowna crash

A 59-year-old woman was crossing the street when she was struck by a car.

A 59-year-old woman died Monday night after being hit by a car, police say.

Around 6:20 p.m., RCMP say a woman was crossing Bernard Avenue at Burtch Road when she was hit by a Honda Civic, driven by a 49-year-old woman, that was turning left from Burtch Road onto Bernard Avenue.

“The 59-year-old female was transported to Kelowna General Hospital by ambulance, where she succumbed to her injuries a short time later,” said Staff Sgt. John Jordan.

Her name is not being released at the request of her family.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

“The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid at this point,” said Jordan.
