Members of the Kelowna RCMP are investigating the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle which occurred on Hwy 97 in the Westside Road construction zone July 6, at about 11 a.m.

The suspect vehicle, a yellow mid-1990’s Cheverolet pickup, failed to stop for police after it was observed traveling at a high rate of speed in the construction zone.

The vehicle continued to travel southbound towards Nancee Way where the traffic was stopped for a red light. The truck rear ended a vehicle, that was stopped at the light, and pushed it out of the way in order to turn right onto Nancee Way.

The vehicle then drove down Spland Road at a continued high rate of speed, through a residential area until it was abandoned by the occupants, who fled on foot.

Police located the 29-year-old female passenger but were unable to locate the driver, who later contacted police. The registered owner is a 23-year-old male from Kelowna.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to please contact Cst Chris Neid, of the Central Okanagan Traffic Services, at 250-980-5353.
