Police find Clifton Road resident deceased outside his home

Foul play not suspected in death of 68-year-old Kelowna resident.

  • Sep. 12, 2013 9:00 a.m.

Police blocked off Clifton Road north of Boppart Court Thursday afternoon as they attempted to de-escalate a situation involving a suicidal male.

A police stand-off with an emotionally distraught man ended tragically Thursday evening.

A 68-year-old Kelowna man was found deceased outside his residence in the 200-block of Clifton Road North.

Kelowna RCMP had originally received a report of a man threatening to commit suicide and known to have access to firearms shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday morning. In response, police set up a roadblock closing off a section of Clifton Road North while the Southeast District Emergency Response Team was called in to try and de-escalate the situation.

The landlord had also been safely evacuated from the house.

After numerous unsuccessful attempts to make contact over an extended period of time, ERT officers entered the house last night and found the man deceased just outside the residence. Police say victim’s death has been determined to not be  criminal in nature.
