Police searching for break-in suspect

RCMP are looking to identify a suspect believed to be connected to two separate break-ins

RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect believed to be connected to two separate break-ins overnight in Kelowna and West Kelowna.

On May 17 shortly after 4:30 am, the Kelowna RCMP received a report of a commercial alarm, with multiple hits, at the Esso On The Run gas station located in the 3600 block of Highway 97 North in Kelowna.

Police have determined that the suspect, associated to a dark coloured pickup truck, had backed up to the south side facing door, of which he allegedly smashed to gain entry inside the store.

Once inside, it is alleged that the suspect then made unsuccessful attempts using chains to remove the stores ATM, which was damaged as a result. It is believed that the suspect also stole other products, including cigarettes before departing.

The suspect as viewed on the stations video surveillance is described as:

Caucasian male

Approximately 30 to 40 years of age

lighter colored hair, with a receding hairline

seen wearing blue jeans, a fleece zip up sweater and a pair of gloves

Shortly after 5:30 a.m., the West Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious incident at the movie theatre located in the 500 block of Highway 97 South. Police confirmed that a suspect used chains in an attempt to remove an ATM from inside the building.

“RCMP believe that the two crimes are related to one another,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect and ask all witnesses to come forward.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637).
