A street race on Harvey Avenue between two drivers has proven to be costly.
An RCMP patrol car was passed by two vehicles at a high rate of speed on Thursday night, about 9 p.m., between Burtch Road and Ethel Street.
The two vehicles, a 1997 Chevy Camaro and a 2011 GMC Sierra, were clocked at more than 110km/h in a 50km/h zone.
The driver of the GMC, a 48-year-old West Kelowna man, and the driver of the Camaro, a 58-year-old Kelowna man, both had their driver’s licenses seized and vehicles impounded. Each was also served with an immediate 15-day driving prohibition for street racing and violation tickets for excessive speed.
In addition, the driver of the Camaro was also served a violation ticket for no insurance as it had expired last weekend.
The fine for excessive speed ranges from $368 to $483 and comes with a mandatory seven-day impound. Police may also request an increase in penalty and vehicle impound should the circumstances deem it necessary.
