Senior charged with cat abuse

Kelowna RCMP have laid charges against a 78-year-old man, accused of injuring or endangering a cat that belonged to another person in an apartment complex where both people, in the 3100 block of Walnut Street.

Kelowna RCMP have laid charges against a 78-year-old man, accused of injuring or endangering a cat that belonged to another person in an apartment complex where both people, in the 3100 block of Walnut Street.

Witnesses saw the suspect take a cat into a small outbuilding in the complex.

Moments later, the male came out carrying a garbage bag, which he put into the garbage can. Witnesses checked the contents of the garbage bag, found the cats body and called police. The cat’s remains will undergo a necropsy to determine the cause of death.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and has since been released, with a court date set for Aug. 15 in Kelowna.
