Short spin in stolen vehicle for Lake Country thief

Police spot stolen Jeep 10 minutes after it was reported stolen.

A Lake Country man who allegedly stole a Jeep Saturday night wasn’t behind the wheel of the ill-gotten vehicle for long.

Police say they were called to a home in the 3100-block of Reimche Road in Lake Country at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after a person reported his 2005 brown Jeep SUV had just been stolen.

Not more than 10 minutes later, an officer patrolling on Highway 97 spotted the vehicle and followed it as he called in backup, said Const. Steve Holmes.

As the officer followed the Jeep, it drove into and around a mobile home park.

Upon leaving the park, the vehicle was stopped by police and the driver was arrested.

That’s when police detected the possibility the man was impaired by alcohol and gave him a breath test, which he failed, said Holmes.

The driver, a 21-year-old Lake Country man, was given a 30 day driving prohibition and also faces a proposed charge of possession of stolen property over $5,000, which he will appear in court on June 27.

The Jeep was returned, undamaged, to its owner.
