Stock at Kelowna bike shop goes up in smoke

Friday night fire at Kelowna Cycle caused damage to inventory.

Kelowna Fire Department personnel responded to a report of smoke at 2900 block of Pandosy, just after 10 p.m. Friday.

Upon arrival, fire crews found blackened windows, heavy smoke and heat from a fire inside a bike shop within a two storey multi unit commercial building, said KFD Platoon Captain, Steve Wallick

“Ventilation of the heavy smoke along with a direct interior attack allowed the fire crews to contain the fire to only the bike shop,” said Wallick.  “There were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire. One fire fighter was taken to hospital with a minor back injury due to a fall. Fire investigators are on scene to determine the cause.”

Much of the stock in the bike shop is damaged due to the extreme heat.

Three engines, one rescue, one command unit and 18 firefighters responded to the scene with assistance from BCAS, RCMP and Fortis.
