Saturday Night Fever, Dirty Dancing, Grease, Singing in the Rain are a few of the movie-themed dances to be performed at the 9th Annual Swinging with the Stars on March 18.

A few tickets remain for this popular event in support of the Central Okanagan Hospice Association, which is their largest fundraising event.

This long-running event, presented by Jane Hoffman Group Caldwell Banker Horizon Realty, is based on the popular television show “Dancing with the Stars” and pairs professional dance instructors with community-minded individuals wanting to take on the challenge to become ‘dancing stars’.

“This year’s theme has a twist with our dancers performing choreographed routines from famous movies,” said Jan Woolsey, Swinging with the Stars co-ordinator.

“We wanted to shake things up a bit in our ninth year and adding the dimension of famous dances from movies will definitely add some great entertainment value for our guests attending.”

Woolsey said the event would not happen without the volunteer efforts of local dancing studios and the support from the community.

“Each year, we ask our local dance studios to participate and they rarely say no to us. We thank these committed and enthusiastic professionals who give so much of their time - literally close to one hundred hours in a volunteer capacity.”

Dancers this year are: Wilbur Turner, Kelowna Wine and Art Piano Bar owner and his partner, Albert Ascona, a WestJet flight attendant; Vincent Jones, Marketing Manager, Walker Real Estate and his partner Valaura Vedan, Marketing Specialist, By Jove Co.; Lisa Stephenson, a passionate community volunteer and husband Dave Stephenson, President, Sysco Kelowna Ltd.; Maria Graziano, Owner Bliss Bridal and Boutique; Reg Sahay, RCMP Constable, Kelowna Police Dog Service; and Alex Lambert, CEO, The Garage Sale Luxury Auction.

The professional dance studios participating this year are: Jennifer Large and Carley Bailey, Canadian School of Ballet; Lucy Hazelwood, LUKI Dance Productions; Tina Mandl, Oranj Dance and Fitness; and Samantha Sambrielaz and Jaime Cuberos, Latinesque Ballroom and Latin Dance Studio.

This semi-formal event will be held at the Delta Grand Resort. Tickets are $200/each and can be purchased by calling Kathy at 250-864-0533.
