Teen and adult arrested for Kelowna house arson

Explosion at home on St. Amand Road results in arrest of 19 and 14 year-old males.

A Kelowna man and a Kelowna teenager have been charged with arson in connection with the explosion that occurred on St. Amand Road late Saturday night.

Police were alerted to the explosion at 11:57 p.m. along with a report of two males breaking the windows of two vehicles parked at 3250 St Amand Rd.

A fire had been started in the carport of the residence. A subsequent explosion enabled the fire to spread to the house and the two vehiclese. The Kelowna Fire Department was able to quench the blaze which caused significant damage to the residence and vehicles.

A 19-year-old man, who had recently moved to Kelowna, and a 14-year-old youth were taken into custody.

Both appeared before a Judicial Justice of the Peace and have since been released with a promise to appear in court at a later date.
