Three fires sparked in the North Okanagan Friday night

Update 12:15 p.m.

Fire crews extinguished a blaze that sparked within one kilometre of the village at SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon July 31.

BC Wildfire Service assisted the Silver Star Mountain Fire Department in knocking down the fire following the thunderstorm that swept across the valley Friday evening.

“(There) was a request for assistance from the Silver Star fire department yesterday evening,” said Fire Information Officer Gagan Lidhran. “Its status currently is under control.”

Lidhran said the fire does not pose a threat to the community. Crews will return to the scene later this afternoon to check for any hot spots in need of putting out.

The fire is believed to have been started by lightning and is currently spot-sized at about 0.009 hectares.
