It’s been just over 10 months since the wind-whipped Trepanier wildfire started just outside Trepanier Creek Greenway Regional Park.

That fire and subsequent safety concerns forced the closure of the park.

But after a thorough assessment and removal of identified hazard trees involving regional parks staff and BC Wildfire Management Branch crews, the regional park is open once again.

The main trail, information kiosk and parking area for the 4.3-hectare park, is located just off Trepanier Bench Road and south of the Highway 97C Okanagan Connector Trepanier off ramp.

For their safety, visitors are encouraged to stay on designated trails.

The first official event for the reopened park begins this Saturday at 9 a.m. with the scheduled Take a Hike program.

Visitors are encouraged to join a parks interpreter and guest historian Bob Hayes for “The Trepanier Saga.”

There is no cost to take part in the event, but those interested are encouraged to pre-register for the two to three hour outing by contacting EECO staff at 250-469-6140 or e-mailing eeco@cord.bc.ca.
