Two-vehicle collision halts Westside traffic

Traffic was backed up Thursday morning on Highway 97 in West Kelowna.

Traffic was backed up Thursday morning on Highway 97 in West Kelowna due to a two-vehicle collision near Nancee Way just before 7 a.m.

Police says that the driver of a northbound Mitsubishi car on Highway 97 failed to stop at a red light and struck a southbound pickup truck that was turning left onto Nancee Way.

The car struck the passenger side of the truck which caused the truck to flip onto its roof and come to rest against the traffic light post.

The driver of the truck was taken to Kelowna General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, suffering from neck and back pain.

The driver of the car, who was  uninjured, has been issued a violation ticket for proceeding on a red light, which carries a fine of $167.
