UPDATE: 4 people in critical condition after head-on crash on Kelowna’s Highway 33

Two vehicles have reportedly gone over an embankment

UPDATE 11:42 a.m.

Four people are in critical condition at Kelowna General Hospital as a result of a head-on crash between two vehicles on Highway 33.

The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday night between a silver-coloured Toyota sedan travelling eastbound on the highway and a black-coloured Dodge sedan travelling westbound.

Kelowna RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation team is continuing their investigation and asking for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam or surveillance footage to come forward. Anyone with any information or witnesses the driving behaviors of the vehicles before the crash is to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 with the reference file number 2024-10614.

UPDATE 2/29 7:20 a.m.

Highway 33 reopened at 5:35 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The highway was closed for nearly seven hours from Garner Road to Toovey Road.

Highway 33 is closed at Springfield Road due to a multi-vehicle crash.

The incident was reported just after 10 p.m. Wednesday.

According to those on scene two vehicles crashed into a median on Highway 33 eastbound near Garner Road.

The vehicles both appeared to have crashed into a median and then rolled down an embankment.

Multiple emergency crews are responding to the incident.

It’s unclear what caused the crash, as witnesses reported on social media that the roads were clear and dry prior to the collision.

DriveBC is reporting Highway 33 to be closed in both directions from Oswell Drive and Loseth Drive.

Traffic is backed up headed east on Highway 33. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. There is no detour currently available.
