Update: 2:30 p.m.

A head-on crash near Grinrod Tuesday morning sent four to hospital and shut down the highway for about three hours.

On Sept. 11 just before 7 a.m., the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision located on the 6600 block of Highway 97a, near Grindrod.

“Two small vehicles collided, head on, as a result of one vehicle allegedly crossing the center line,” explains Const. Kelly Brett.

“Four people were transported to the nearest medical facility by the BC Ambulance Service with non-life threatening injuries.”

Bretty says RCMP would like to thank members of the public who jumped into action to help the accident victims before emergency personnel arrived.

“When significant things happen in a small rural area, it is often the local public who is on scene prior to emergency personnel, which was the case in today’s collision,” says Brett.

“The RCMP would like to thank the public for stopping to render assistance to the occupants of the vehicles, with one vehicle carrying a small child.”

The investigation into the collision is ongoing, however Brett says an 18-year-old driver from Salmon Arm is facing possible charges under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Drugs or alcohol were not a factor in this incident.
