A 26-year-old Vernon woman is in critical condition after she suffered massive head injuries in a single-vehicle collision Thursday on Highway 97 near Crystal Waters.

The Vernon woman was driving a brown Mazda pickup truck northbound on Highway 97 in what police call a sudden and severe rainstorm at about 3:15 p.m. when the truck suddenly veered across the oncoming lanes and hit a cement curb.

Police say the impact launched the truck in the air, then the truck crashed into a rock wall, collapsing the roof on the driver’s side.

The woman, who was the only occupant in the vehicle, suffered massive head injuries as a result of the collision and was taken to Kelowna General Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Weather and road conditions are considered to be the main contributing factors in this crash.
