VIDEO: Helicopter rescues teens from cliff

Two 16-year-old boys were stranded on a rock cliff along the Okanagan Rail Trail at about 3 p.m. Monday

Two youth had a high-flying experience along Kalamalka Lake Monday.

Vernon Search and Rescue received a report of two 16-year-old boys stranded on a rock cliff along the Okanagan Rail Trail at about 3 p.m.

“They had got part way up and they started slipping. They couldn’t go up and they couldn’t go down,” said Leigh Pearson, search manager.

The pair were about 60 feet above the ground so SAR decided to use its helicopter winch to lower a member and then remove the teens.

“It worked really well,” said Pearson.

Pearson is urging caution when residents consider going rock climbing.

“They had no equipment, no ropes. Go with someone who is experienced and can teach you the skills,” he said.
