Westbank celebrates 110th birthday

The Historic Westbank Association is gearing up for Westbank's 110th birthday party this Saturday.

The Historic Westbank Association is gearing up for Westbank’s 110th birthday party this Saturday.

The celebration begins at 8 a.m. as part of the Westbank Farmers’ Market and will continue all day at the Westbank Community Centre, located at 2466 Main Street in downtown Westbank.

As part of the celebrations, there will be numerous activities for children at the market during the day, including: Robo the clown, a free bouncy castle, free face painting and a fish pond. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be available for lunch for a small charge.

Five bands will provide continuous entertainment. including: Vic Ukrainetz (8 to 9:45 a.m.), Just Us (9:45 to 11 a.m.), Country Classics (11 a.m. to noon), The Ogopogo Locos (noon to 12:30 p.m.) and Crazy Hearts (12:30 to 2 p.m.).

Free presentations highlighting local culture and history will be available on a rotating basis from approximately 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Westbank Community Centre, featuring local experts Sheila Paynter, Fern Jean, Milton Reese and representatives from Westbank First Nation.

As part of the 110th birthday celebrations, numerous downtown merchants will be holding a special sidewalk sale during the day to coincide with the festivities at the community centre.

The event will continue into the evening with a roast beef dinner and dance at Westbank Community Centre. Tickets for the dinner and dance are $20 each and are available at Dogwood Nursery, the UPS Store, Buckerfields, Paynter’s Fruit Market, Home Hardware, the Westbank Museum and Bering Music, as well as directly from the Historic Westbank Association website: westbank.biz/anniversary.html.
