Smoke in the Okanagan Valley Wednesday night was from a fire at Spatsum Creek, 10 km south of Ashcroft.
Covering 245 hectares by Wednesday evening, the Wildfire Management Branch update said the fire was not near any homes.
The bulletin reads:
“Above seasonal weather conditions have increased fire behaviour on the Spatsum Creek wildfire.
“Today, approximately 63 fire fighters and three helicopters will action the fire. Airtankers may also repond if fire activity requires.
“Objectives include building control lines around the perimeter tying into natural rock features. Retardant lines will be used in conjunction with hand-guards in difficult areas.
“Smoke from the fire was, and will continue to be, visible throughout the B.C. Interior.”
The wildfire branch has determined the fire to be human caused.
“The fire was person-caused, but a specific cause has not been determined.”
By Wednesday night there were 63 firefighters deployed and three helicopters.
