UPDATE: Wildfire near Peachland

Fire crews are on scene of a blaze off a forest service road near Peachland.

UPDATE: 8:15 p.m.

Wildfire crews and local fire departments remain on scene of an out-of-control blaze above Peachland.

Two helicopters are continuing to fight the fire from above with 23 forestry crews are on the ground.

There is no estimated size of the blaze which started about 3:30 p.m., Friday.

Fire information officer Jody Lucius, says there is no containment yet on the fire; however it’s unclear if forestry will remain on the scene overnight.

Structures are in the area, but no evacuation alert has been ordered.

UPDATE: 5:41 p.m.

The Munro Lake fire above Peachland is reported to be near a water treatment plant and in a steep forested area.

The blaze is near by commercial and residential structures; however no evacuation alert has been ordered.

While the area is inaccessible, BC Wildfire Service is able to attack the flames from the air.

James Springer, the Peachland Assistant Fire Chief, says he is unclear the size of the fire but believes crews have a good handle on it.

“We are monitoring it and so it BC Forest Service, we don’t have evacuations at this time but it is a fluid situation and we have to monitor that,” he explains.

The initial call came in at 3:30 p.m for a blaze that was reported to be 100 metres by 100 metres.

Princeton Avenue at Pierce Street is blocked off by emergency crews and is not accessible.

UPDATE: 5:09 p.m.

BC Wildfire service is on scene of the Munro Lake blaze.

Two crews are currently working the fire alongside firefighters from Summerland, West Kelowna, Kelowna and Lake Country. Crews are supported by three helicopters and several air tankers.

There is currently no estimated size of the fire; however structures are not reported to be threatened.

Several fire departments are headed to a forest service road after reports of a wildfire near Peachland.

A plume of white smoke was seen in the area about 3:45 p.m.

According to witnesses the blaze is near Munro Lake Forest Service Road.

The Kelowna Capital News has a reporter headed to the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.
