UPDATE: Wildfire near Coquihalla between Merritt and Hope being held

The Britton Creek wildfire is now being held, meaning it’s unlikely to spread.

A wildfire has sparked near the Coquihalla Highway south of Merritt, near Britton Creek.

The fire was discovered around 6 p.m. Sunday (June 25).

Although the fire is out of control, it is estimated to be only 0.009 hectares in size at this time.

The wildfire was caused by lightning.
