Allen Russell TOMPKINS

a World War II Veteran, died peacefully at home on December 18, 2008 with family members at his side, at the age of 85. He will be mourned and sadly missed by his loving wife, Marilyn, and a blended family of 10 children. He is survived by Richard (Denise), Dean (Kathy), Stephen, Brian, Len (Cathy) and Darlene, Steve (Judy), Chris (Gail), Janet (Steve) and Peter John; grandchildren: Derrek, Megan, Ashley, Alex, Jodi, Tanya, Kelly, Tina, Kim, Nicolle, Brennan, Meghan, Ryan, Jamie, Daniel and Sarah; brother Claude (Ruth), niece Sharon (Jim) and nephew Norm (Sue) and their families, brother in law Charles (Dorothy) Tupper, N.S. and numerous cousins. Born in Hartland, N.B., Oct. 20, 1923: As a young man, Al spent 4 years in active service with the Canadian Army, landing in Normandy at Juno Beach on “D” Day with the 3rd Div. and fought in the Normandy Campaign until the end of World War II. Following military service Al resided in N.B., London, Ontario, finally relocating to B.C. in 1968 where he met and married Marilyn 31 years ago. Together they owned and operated “Crossroads” gas station and Pitt River Services VW repair shop until 1987 when they retired to a hobby farm in Pitt Meadows. In 1997 Al and Marilyn relocated to Kelowna and have enjoyed ten years of R.V. travelling when not at home. Al will be missed by many and mourned since a veteran died today. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC. Al’s ashes will be interred in the Field of Honour at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in the Spring. Donations in his memory, for those who wish to the Canadian Cancer Society.
