LOCKHORST

LOCKHORST, Anton (Tony) Jacobus

June 6, 1930 - July 25, 2017

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Tony passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by the love of his family. He is survived by his cherished wife Margarita, four children, eight grandchildren, his brother Piet, nephews and nieces.

Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Tony escaped the Nazi occupation during WWII, and served with the Allied Forces for the rest of the war. Following the liberation of Holland, he became a Captain in the Royal Dutch Air Force on active duty in Indonesia, Korea, and Egypt-Suez. Tony arrived in Canada in the late 1950s and began a long career as a community builder, business owner, and developer. His hard work and perseverance lives on today in various prominent Okanagan buildings and subdivisions.

Tony earned a Bachelor of Business and International Commerce & Finance degree from the University of Amsterdam, an Agent & Broker License from the Real Estate Institute of BC, and was a Fellow with the Canadian Association of Insurance Brokers. He also completed education in Land & Urban Development, and Construction. Tony was a founding member of the Kelowna Boys' Club; and a Director of the Kelowna & District Minor Hockey Association, International Arabian Horse Association, and the Kelowna Art Foundation. He also sat on the Board of Governors of Okanagan University College, and was a

long-time regular member of the Royal Canadian Legion.

An avid family man, Tony was readily available for advice, or to tell stories of a full and interesting life. He always had a smile and a lap for his grandchildren, and described his final 18 years with Margarita as the happiest of his life. His keen mind, loving generosity, wisdom, and joie de vivre will be deeply missed.
