Archibald Gilbert McCannel

McCannel, Archibald Gilbert – It is with sadness we announce the passing of Archie McCannel at the age of 93 years on June 23, 2010, in his home at The Village at Smith Creek in West Kelowna. Always young at heart and generous of spirit, Archie attracted many friends throughout his life. A veteran of World War II, he returned safely to his loving family after four years overseas. Born June 2, 1917 and raised in Saskatchewan, Archie and his new bride, Eileen, moved to Trail BC where he was employed by Cominco for the rest of his working life. They enjoyed life in Trail being especially active with golf and curling. It was with difficulty that they left their many friends in Trail to move to Kelowna in 1996 to be closer to family. They embraced life in Kelowna and especially enjoyed the time they spent as volunteers at the David Lloyd Jones Home. Archie will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He is predeceased recently by his sister, Marjorie Kelsey and his brother, John Arthur McCannel. He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Eileen, his daughter Judy Nistor (Bud), his grandson, Craig Nistor (Ronda), his grandaughter, Jennifer Neal (Rob), his great grandsons, Charlie, Jake, Riley, Bradley, Brodie, and his great grandaughter, Kinsey. He is lovingly remembered by his many neices and nephews and his cousins. The family would like to express gratitude for the loving care Archie received from the staff at Smith Creek. A memorial service will be held at Everden Rust Funeral Services, 1910 Windsor Rd. In Kelowna on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Karen Medland of First United Church conducting the service. Interment will follow at a later date in Trail BC.
